Painted Shores

Painted Shores

Victoria, Australia
Traveling back home to Australia after 10 years, I had feelings of anticipation, excitement and nostalgia. I truly wanted to capture an image that really evoked an emotion – a feeling of something totally different. Living in Australia for over 30 years, I thought I had shot every square inch of the place and all the iconic landscapes. This location was a bloody ripper and completely unexpected. It reflected the spirit of the one thing I am constantly chasing through my lens – a mood, a feeling – total serenity.

One evening, I could feel a sunset coming on, and decided to explore the shores of a remote part of the bay I rarely visited. In the distance I noticed the remains of an old jetty. It didn’t look like too much at first, but as I approached it – magic came in and things really started to change.

Setting up my tripod looking straight down the jetty, I was amazed at the total calmness that surrounded me. Mother Nature was at total peace and so was I. I used a 30 second exposure to set mood that I was feeling. The subtle hues of twilight reflected perfectly onto the surface of the ocean. When I look at this image I feel total calm and peace
