The winds of the Pacific seem to constantly rip through the Hawaiian Islands, swaying palm trees and creating mega waves for surfers. I have also come to know the other side of Polynesia’s diverse weather. There are moments of absolute calm – mornings, when the water sits still and seamlessly reflects the glowing sky. It is like a smooth sheet of glass – a mirror stretching out as far as the eye can see. That is what I set out to capture on this quiet summer morning on Molokai. No wind. No waves. Total serenity. The sun, just peeking over the horizon, lights the atmosphere with a palette of soft blue and purple tones. Touches of pink and red complete a three-dimensional feel to the clouds hovering above, echoing perfectly in the vast ocean below. Some classic boats provide the only trace of human life. All that stirs is my soul and the peaceful spirit of Oceania.
